The Bengaluru Chapter of the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) organised a knowledge-centric learning and networking session for its members, bringing together over 60 restaurant owners and industry stakeholders.
The session featured an in-depth presentation by Sampat Raj, District Fire Officer – Secretariat, Vidhana Soudha, who addressed critical aspects of fire safety, regulatory compliance and emergency preparedness for restaurant operations. A detailed Q&A segment allowed members to seek practical guidance on implementation. The chapter also announced plans to conduct multiple fire safety training programmes in collaboration with the Fire Department to help member outlets strengthen compliance.
A podcast-style discussion followed, featuring industry veterans Desmond Rice, Rajesh Rajaram and Prem Koshy, who collectively bring over 120 years of experience in Bengaluru’s food and beverage sector. The speakers shared insights on navigating operational challenges, responding to evolving consumer preferences and building sustainable, long-term businesses in a competitive market.
A key highlight of the event was the onboarding launch of Ownly, a restaurant-first food delivery initiative developed by NRAI Bengaluru in collaboration with Rapido. Represented by Mr. Rizwanullah MD Shaikh, Vice President – Supply Acquisition & Operations, the Ownly team outlined a delivery model offering NRAI members zero commission, delivery fees or discounts. The launch followed extensive consultations between NRAI Bengaluru, NRAI Delhi and Rapido’s leadership.
Commenting on the initiative, Ananth Narayan, Chapter Head, NRAI Bengaluru, said the chapter aims to strengthen grassroots collaboration, resolve local challenges and build a more resilient restaurant ecosystem. Through such programmes, NRAI Bengaluru continues to focus on capacity building, advocacy and industry collaboration.
