Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council to Organise IndiaSkills 2026 Regional Hospitality Competitions

The Tourism & Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) is set to organise the IndiaSkills 2026 – Regional Hospitality Competitions from 19 to 21 January 2026 at Down Town University, Guwahati, Assam. The three-day event forms an integral part of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship’s (MSDE) flagship IndiaSkills 2025–26programme and will spotlight India’s emerging hospitality talent across five key skill areas—Bakery, Cooking, Restaurant Services, Patisserie & Confectionery, and Hotel Reception.
 
Participants for the Northeast regional round were selected through a stringent, multi-stage process that included an MCQ-based knowledge assessment followed by hands-on skill trials. Based on merit and performance, 39 candidateswere shortlisted across the five categories, representing Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Mizoram, and Tripura.
 
IndiaSkills serves as India’s official pathway to the WorldSkills Competition, the world’s largest global skills platform. Top performers from the regional and national rounds undergo advanced training and mentorship before earning the opportunity to represent India internationally. India’s hospitality contingent has consistently delivered strong results at WorldSkills, winning multiple medals and medallions across editions from 2017 to 2024, highlighting the sector’s growing global competitiveness.
 
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Mr. Rajan Bahadur, CEO, THSC, said that IndiaSkills plays a critical role in identifying and nurturing vocational excellence while empowering young professionals to compete on the world stage.
 
The top three winners in each category will receive advanced training and compete in further national-level trials, culminating in the selection of one finalist per skill to represent India at WorldSkills Shanghai, China.
 
As the apex body for tourism and hospitality skilling in India, THSC has trained over 2 million candidates and certified more than 1.6 million youth, supported by a robust network of training institutes, colleges, and industry partners nationwide.
